About Ray Remington

Ray Remington is a 28 year old Americana Country Singer-Songwriter based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Introduced early on to Old Country and Southern Gospel Records, Ray has been inspired by artists like Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, and Patsy Cline. Ray grew in church since the age of 5. His grandmother gave him his first guitar at the age of 5. Around the age of 13,

Ray gave of his time playing music in his local church singing, and playing electric guitar. With Ray’s first trip to Nashville at the age of 19 he was inspired by a Country & Bluegrass band he heard at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant in Downtown Franklin, TN. Although, Ray had a passion for Country & Bluegrass Music, he recorded a 4 song EP with Grammy Award Winning Producer, Ed Cash in 2016. It wasn’t until the release of his Christian music that Ray realized he wasn’t happy writing Church music.

“In 2016, I had a very brief but inspiring conversation with Producer Dave Cobb about writing as honest as I could. I felt I couldn’t do that with Church Music. And the only way I could truly enjoy writing honestly was writing like the artists I loved listening to.” Early in 2016, I remember reading an article of three Country Outlaw Songwriters named Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson.

Those are the kind of guys that are inspiring me right now. That’s how I want to write. For so many years growing up in Church, you are taught you don’t talk about certain things. Or you can’t feel mad, you should just give it to Jesus.  But rather than being dishonest, I feel that Jesus would want us to be honest with him about how we feel.  Even if it’s not happy. So, that’s how I am choosing to write these days. I want to talk about the struggle of trying to make it as a Songwriter in Nashville, or when I struggle to pay the bills, or trying to be a good husband and father. You can hear this in all my new songs.” - Ray Remington
